Are you guilty of a messy, over crowded closet? Do you still have those jeans that haven’t fit in two years, that blouse you wore one time four months ago, or that awful bridesmaids dress you never even want to look at again? Do you have to go through hanger, after hanger, after hanger every morning when picking what to wear?
No matter how clean your bedroom is after a detail cleaning service, cluttered areas will make it seem like more of a mess than anything else. And for many, that cluttered area is the closet.
This year, let’s take on the mantra, “New Year, New Closet.”
This task is quick and simple, and it will help you clean out your unwanted clothes by the end of June.
Turn every hanger in your closet so it is facing towards you instead of away. Do this for all of your clothes, even if some items are seasonal and wouldn’t be worn until the warmer months.
Exceptions can be made for nicer attire that is only worn for special occasions or sports jerseys that are only worn at games.
Throughout the next five months, as you wear a clothing item, you can put it back in your closet with the hanger facing the normal way.
This will give you a clear idea of what you’re wearing regularly.
At the end of June, look through your closet and pull out every item where the hanger opening is still facing you. Go through each item and unless you have a really, really good reason to keep it, throw it in the donate bag.
Not only is this an easy way to simplify your life and your closet, but you’ll also feel good about giving back by donating the items to charity.
