Enjoy April Fools with your Kids

April Fools is a time for some fun, playing tricks and pulling pranks. For parents, the holiday provides an opportunity to have some fun with the little ones. Instead of pranking your kids, which could lead to unwanted tears, we’ve got some great ideas to turn April Fools into a fun, topsy-turvy day!

Start the Day Early

Child Sleeping

If you have kids young enough to carry, pick them up in their sleep and switch them to another bed in the house. When they wake up confused, play dumb!

Dye the Milk

Put food dye in the milk. When it’s time for cereal, pretend that you can’t see the new color. “It’s the same white milk it always is.”

Doughnut Seeds

Box of Donuts with Sprinkles
Give your kids cheerios and have them “plant” them in the backyard to “grow” doughnuts. Later in the afternoon, put a box of doughnuts on top of where the seeds were planted.

Create a Balloon Pit

Little Boy Playing with Balloons

When your kids are at school, fill their room with balloons from top to bottom. Make sure you have a phone handy to record their reaction. This will also provide hours of fun, playtime!

Dessert for Dinner

Grilled Cheese Sandwich

You can make a faux grilled cheese using two skinny slices of pound cake with yellow colored icing in between. Your kids will be confused, but delighted when this hits their taste buds!

After the “grilled cheese” tell them there are cupcakes too! They’ll be shocked when they bite into a cupcake made from ground beef cooked in a muffin tin, and mashed potatoes on top to look like icing.
