Tips & Tricks to Improve Productivity

September 6th is Fight Procrastination Day! Follow these steps to optimize your productivity and get things done on time (or ahead of time!).

  • Keep a comfortable and clutter free work area: We all know how difficult it can be to be productive in a cluttered environment. Contact The Cleaning Authority today to leave the mess to us! Additionally, check out some of our other blog posts for organizational tips for your kitchen, closet, laundry room, and more!
  • Planner/ to do list: Every Sunday, write a to-do list for the week, as well as a calendar of any meetings, appointments, or other obligations. This will help you be prepared and organized for the week ahead. Bonus tip: It may be easier and quicker to type up a quick to-do list on your phone, but writing it out with pen and paper can help you visualize your tasks for the day. It’s much more satisfying to physically cross items off, plus less screen time!
  • Prioritize tasks: A long to-do list can be overwhelming and may cause you to avoid certain tasks. Make it easier to digest by prioritizing each item. Which ones will require the most time and effort? Which have the soonest deadlines? Which carry the most importance?
  • Give yourself deadlines: In the event that something you are working on doesn’t have a set deadline, create one yourself. You’ve been putting off organizing your home office, renovating your bathroom, or selling your old furniture – pick a (realistic) date to complete these tasks.
  • Stay motivated: It’s easy to feel unmotivated when you don’t feel purpose in what you’re doing. Remind yourself of your goals and how what you are currently doing will help you accomplish them. Creating a vision board can be helpful in this exercise – virtually or physically. Whenever you’re feeling uninspired, visit your vision to keep you on track.
  • Keep a routine: Having a set routine minimizes extra stress you may feel from uncertainty throughout the day. A calming morning routine can set the tone for the whole and ensure that you get off on the right foot.
  • Take short, frequent breaks: Do you often have trouble staying on task? Don’t worry – it’s normal. In fact, the human brain can only stay productive for about 50 minutes at a time, while the average human attention span is only 8 seconds (a goldfish’s is 9!). Knowing this, don’t be so hard on yourself for needing to take a step back every once in a while. Taking regular breaks every 50-90 minutes can actually help increase your overall productivity. A 10-15 minute break can give you the energy boost you need to make it through the next 50-90 minutes!
