Top Plants to Purify the Air in Your Home

At The Cleaning Authority, the importance of a clean and organized home extends much further than a spotless home, ease of mind, and ability to spend more time doing things you love, with the people you love! Our detailed cleaning assists in the minimization of allergens and germs in the home, as well as improves the clean air circulating in the home.

In addition to cleaning, one easy source of clean air comes in the form of houseplants, which brings many benefits to your home, including adding natural ambiance to your décor, reducing stress levels, and improving the quality of air in your home.

In a study conducted by NASA on Clear Air, they tested plants’ effectiveness on absorbing carbon dioxide as well removing organic indoor air pollutants such as benzene, formaldehyde, and trichloroethylene, which can be found in many household items:

  • Benzene can be commonly found in materials such as paints, detergents, and adhesives and coatings. Large exposures to benzene can cause dizziness, headaches, rapid heartbeat, or drowsiness.
  • Formaldehyde can be commonly found in composite wood products, glues, paints and coatings, paper products, and dishwashing liquids or fabric softeners. Exposures to formaldehyde can lead to irritation of the skin, eyes, nose, and throat.
  • Trichloroethylene can be commonly found in cleaning wipes, aerosol cleaning products, paint removers, spray adhesives, and carpet and spot removers. Exposure can lead to dizziness, headaches, nausea and irritation to skin and eyes.

After testing the removal of benzene, formaldehyde, trichloroethylene, ammonia and xylene, the following plants were found to be most effective in purifying the indoor air in your home!
