Four Ways to Feel Less Overwhelmed by Your At-Home To-Do List

We have all experienced this feeling – you have arrived home from a busy workday, and all you want to do is relax with a glass of wine on the couch or dinner with the family. As you survey the scene, you notice all the things you have to do: the fridge is completely empty, the kids need help with their homework, and your dog could really use a bath.

The thought of a seemingly infinite to-do list, with house projects both big and small, can be overwhelming, with no downtime for yourself. However, at The Cleaning Authority we know we can take one thing off your to-do list: clean the house!

But we know that’s only one piece of the puzzle of your life and your home’s needs. So, we have put together four simple strategies that break down and effectively master your at-home to-do list so you can spend more time enjoying the things you love!

1. Write It Down
Don’t leave it in your head! Jotting down everything you want to do allows you to see it in one organized place, as well as allows you to form concrete goals.

2. Plan Ahead of Time
Before you start, take a look at your list, and decide the best way to go about it. There are a few ways you can clear off your to-do list:

  • Tackle the tough stuff first – it’s easy to put off your to-do list if you’re dreading a particular task. Get the hard stuff out of the way, which will make it much easier to then move to the smaller, easier tasks.
  • Prioritize your tasks by needs and wants or today versus this week. Sometimes you only have limited time to get things done, and that’s ok! Decide which tasks are urgent needs versus chores that would be nice to get done. When you categorize it this way, you are much more likely to chip away at your to-do list.

3. Delegate
Can you delegate any tasks to your children or spouse? Don’t carry the weight of the home on your shoulders alone! If you can recruit help for your chores, more can be achieved – and at a quicker pace! And don’t forget us! We can take care of the cleaning! Remember, it has to get done, just not by you!

4. Cross Off as You Go!
Acknowledge your productivity! Every time you finish something on your task list, cross it out. It may seem miniscule, but it will give you a sense of accomplishment that you are ticking away at your chores.

Now that you’ve optimized your to-do list, contact The Cleaning Authority, so you can cross cleaning off!
